Ok, so while not precisely a RANCH- sometimes it feels as though we're raising a small herd of livestock.... and we like it that way. I think our precise variety of livestock changes on a daily basis: yesterday, definitely a bunch of cattle considering the amount of crap I was dished; last week at Grandma's house we were a bunch of turkeys- busy, but benign; today they were a pack of puppies- totally bouncing and adorable.
Morgan, of course, is our Ranch foreman. He makes sure that everything is running smoothly and that bills are being paid and collected on- we couldn't ask for a better overseer. He stays busy "bringing home the bacon" as Porter would say- that's where Daddy goes everyday by the way- he goes to work so he can 'bring home the bacon'- and a very important job it is too.
I am the maintenance man- or woman rather... person? I make sure that everyone is 1) Clean... as in, clean clothes, faces and hands presentable, and (to the point of obsession almost) hair must be done...'even little boys need their hair done' is my motto 2) Well Fed... judging by the cheeks on the one and the tummy on the other- I'm pretty sure I am magnifying my calling, and 3) as Happy as it is possible to be with 4 or more battles of will going on simultaneously. Anyway, I have the good fortune to enjoy every joyous, and incredibly non-joyous moment of each day with our beautiful boys and with just 18 months difference in age- we have heaps of both....Now Owen, on the other hand...heaven on earth. Seriously, I'm sorry for every other parent out there because I was blessed with the BEST baby and although I have no claim on his goodness I certainly enjoy it every second of the day!!
Somedays I feel like I could float away. Everything is so perfect and everyone is so happy- I think I could die of happiness. Other days I can't believe the words I want to, and occasionally do- sling at people. Everything is chaotic and I just want to run away. Then comes the quiet of night when everyone is still for a minute (and asleep!!! yeah!) and I wonder how I would feel if it was all taken away from me... So, instead of holding my breath and dying of happines- and instead of jumping out the window on those crazy days, I remind myself to Just Breathe.
